Frequently asked questions

Q: How is the course taught?

A: Through a mix of recorded lessons, live zoom sessions and self-study exercises.

Alongside these there are a large range of additional learning resources for each lesson including ebooks, films, useful websites, etc.

Q:How many live zoom sessions does it include and when are these?

A: There are 3 Live zoom sessions, these are

- Q&A: including group building games, discussion and course work presentations (this session is optional but we highly recommend that you attend at least one, but you are welcome to attend multiple of these sessions, for more support and guidance when required.)

- module 10: Permaculture design review and presentation preparation

- module 11: Design Presentations and feed back

Each of these are monthly and run over two weekend evenings

Invites for the Live Q&A sessions will be sent our at the start of each month

Invites to the next modules 10 & 11 will be sent out to you once you have informed us that you have completed modules 1 to 9.

Q: How many hours a day does the live zoom lesson run?

A: They run as two evening sessions of around 3 & a half hour, we make sure that there is plenty of breaks so that everyone feels comfortable.

Q: How long does it take to complete the course?

A: You can take as little or as long a time as you like to complete the course once you have completed each module, we recommend that you send us copies of your course work so that we can keep track of your progress.

Once you have completed all 9 modules, please do let us know so that we can include you in the next live sessions of modules 10 and 11.

Q: Do I need to do all the self-study work?

A: There are certain exercises that are highly recommended and these will clearly marked and may be presented on the live sessions. All the other exercises are there to improve your experience of the course and make what you're learning in the sessions more practical. If you would like to skip some of the self-study work that is totally fine, but know that many of the self-studies are there to help you also with your final design presentation.

Q:What's the testing procedure - an exam or coursework?

A: There is no exam at the end, only a chance to show what you have learnt through your permaculture design presentation.

To accredit for your design Certificate you must have completed all 11 modules and present your design.

Q:What other online support is there available before, during and after i complete the Permaculture Design Course?

A: We have 3 Facebook groups, one for new members of Permaculture Kernow (public), , one for people currently attending our course (private) and one that is for our graduates (private) of which we have 101 members, so you can continue to support one another through the life long learning of Permaculture.

We are also currently doing weekly live streams on facebook live which anyone can attend and ask questions.

We also have other social media channels, including

Youtube

Tiktok

Linkedin

As well as our very own website blog where we post students articles, designs and course work (exclusively with their permission).

And if you subscribe or follow us on any of these networks you will instantly be updated when we upload new content or livestream.

Q. Do you need a certain amount of land to run a permaculture site?

A: Permaculture design can be applied to all sizes of site from small urban gardens to large farms.

At the end of the course you will have created a Permaculture Design for your site and we are here to help you every step of the way.

Q. I am concerned that doing the full permaculture course may overwhelm me as I know it's a complex subject and I work, have a child and a busy life! Saying that if I do a course I want to get something out of it! Do you have any recommendations?

A: Many of our previous students have had similar concerns and this is precisely why we have created this on-demand course that can be taken at your own pace whenever you wish.

You can just pick to just do a few modules and book onto other modules as and when you feel like or register for the full course and take as long as you need to complete the course.

All of our previous students have commented that they got a lot out of our course and some have even said that it has been a life changing experience.

Q. Is it possible to do any of the courses face to face?

A:. We run monthly live Q&A sessions alongside games and group building exercises, over zoom as well as modules 10 and 11 which are also both live and are taken once you have completed the rest of the course.

Remember that we are here to help at any time!
